Customs clearance:

Is it necessary to register personal belongings at customs?
Any cargo the weight and volume of which exceed the hand-luggage and which is transported with the help of international traffic shall be registered by customs. The owner of the cargo should provide a complete list of items to be transported, as well as documents that confirm the value and quantity of all items. There is also a list of items which are forbidden to carry as part of personal belongings or they require special permission for export.
Is it important to be present during the transition of personal belongings across the border?
Accompanying personal belongings is not compulsory. The «RUH CARGO» Company can deliver any cargo without the owner's presence at the customs terminal or border checkpoint. In this case, a system of customs clearance called unaccompanied baggage is available. The owner (receiver) or his/her agent may pass the cargo to a representative of the «RUH CARGO» Company in accordance with the previously signed contract for transportation. At this stage, cargo owner ‘s participation is completed. According to the principle of such system of the official customs clearance, the receiver is waiting his/her cargo at home at the arrival address without being present at the customs terminal in the country of destination.
Is it possible to send personal effects as part of a groupage cargo?
In accordance with the international legislation, the transportation of personal effects as part of a groupage cargo in international traffic is prohibited. The prohibition is not applied in case when such cargo also consists of personal effects of another individual who is using the same transportation service.

Transportation of works of art is governed by the laws of Ukraine, and requires both the sender and receiver to prepare the necessary documents for customs. For the implementation of the transitional import / export of works of art a special admittance must be obtained at the Chamber of Commerce of Ukraine (ATACARNET). This document is issued within 10 and more days, upon condition of prior submission of the necessary documents.

How to pack personal belongings for transportation abroad?
There are no prescribed conditions for the packing of personal belongings in the list of customs rules. Boxes and bags, as well as suitcases and packages are suitable for such transportation. However, when choosing packaging for transportation it is important to consider the following:
  1. Keeping cargo in the undamaged condition
  2. Easy access to a cargo for inspection at customs
  3. Possibility of safe transportation

Where can you store personal belongings, if you cannot receive the cargo?
The «RUH CARGO» Company provides a service of free storage of personal belongings at a special depot up to 14 calendar days. During this period our clients can order the delivery of personal effects to the host country. Long term storage is negotiated individually with the managers of the company. Objects forbidden to be transported across the border:

What items are forbidden to be transported abroad as part of personal belongings?
  1. Any military-style weapons and ammunition, as well as any military equipment.
  2. Narcotic and psychotropic substances. Note: the importation of these items in this paragraph can be accomplished when receiving special permission of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, if necessary.
  3. Superpotent, toxic, radioactive, explosive substances, other objects, which can threaten life and health of the population and wildlife or lead to the destruction of the environment, except in cases provided in the legislation of Ukraine.
What items require special permission for export as part of personal belongings?
Subjects of national, historical or cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people:
  1. works of art
  2. cultural and historical possessions
  3. Objects of artistic and scientific value
In particular: paintings, drawings, watercolours, different types of engravings, miniatures, items made of porcelain, crystal, ceramics, wood, leather, precious and non-precious stones, precious and base metals, bone, objects of folk artistic craft, tapestries, furniture, artistic clothing and footwear, numismatics, artistic weapons, books, manuscripts, records, musical instruments, awards, medals, stamps, abolished security papers et-cetera. Note: the importation of the above mentioned items can be accomplished when receiving special permission of the Ministry of Culture in Ukraine.
